Dear CNCM students:
Again regarding the spring ’09 Internship course (CNCM 790):
There are only 6 students (4 registered and two who said they will be doing so) in this class. UB requires at least 10 students for the class to run and for the faculty member to get credit for doing so as part of his/her course load.
I therefore need to know urgently if there are any other people wanting to register for this course by November 18—next Tuesday. Again, please remember you need to have taken all the core courses (or alternatively have taken 30 credit hours in the program) to qualify to take this course. Next semester it will also be possible for you to get an incomplete for the course and to finish it over the summer, if needs be. Please note–a spring incomplete cannot be extended into the fall semester.
If we do not have 10 students registered for this class by this Tuesday, November 18, I will have to cancel the course and assist all these students with completing their Internship work as Independent Studies students. Unfortunately this will also mean that it is no longer possible for us to offer the Internship every semester and that it will only be offered once per year starting in the 2009/10 academic year.
Please give this matter your urgent attention if you are planning to do the internship in spring ’09 by getting in touch with me, or more correctly, with Dr. John Windmueller who runs the Internship program this semester.
If I have to assist students wanting to do the Internship in the spring as Independent Studies (for which I will not get course load credit), I cannot accept any late registrations and no students will be accepted for the spring beyond those already registered by November 18.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

As a follow-up, I wanted to thank students for their quick response to this notice. I’m happy to report that we’ll be offering the internship course this coming spring without a hitch.

I would like to get more information regarding the intern program. I would also like to know if you are offering this program in the summer.

Vanyce, we do not offer the internship course during the summer, but it is possible for students to begin their internship work during the summer if they have their internship choice and MOU approved in advance.
