Pro Bono Resource Center Seeks Volunteer Mediators/Free 20 Hour Child Access Training

By lizkramer

The Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland, Inc. along with our partners the University of Baltimore School of Law Family Mediation Clinic and the Baltimore City Circuit Courts are entering the latest phase of our Pro Bono Mediation Project and need more volunteers to keep it going! The mediation project pairs an experienced volunteer family law attorney with a pro se party engaged in a family law dispute for one day. The University of Baltimore provides the other party with representation by a law student supervised by a professor. Both parties then enter the mediation process with a volunteer mediator. This is usually an all day but very satisfying process for all involved. The clients are given a sense of ownership over the decision-making process when they are represented by counsel in mediation and previous volunteers have found it be a very worthwhile experience. We need volunteer attorneys for March 6, 2008 & March 27, 2008 and volunteer mediators for February 14, 2008, February 21, 2008, February 28, 2008 & March 27, 2008.

We also have scheduled a FREE 20 Hour Child Access Mediation Training! The training will take place Thursday, February 7, 2008-Saturday, February 9, 2008. In consideration for the free mediation training participants must agree to participate in at least 20 hours or 4 court-based mediation sessions within the next two years. In order to receive the training certificate of completion, participants must attend all three days of the training session.
